One-Step Multipication & Division Equations

Before you start working on equations be sure that adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, decimals, and fractions are not difficult for you. If you need to go back and review any of the above that you are unsure of.

An Equal Sign means that one side is equal to the other.

3 x 8 = 24
5 m = 70
24 = 8 x 3
70 = 5 m

Numbers or variables - it doesn't make any difference.

d / 5 = 45
36 / 4 = 9
45 = d / 5
9 = 36 / 4

You can move the constant (number) from one side of the equal sign to the other as long as whatever you do to one side you do to the other. Using the below equation to practice.

5m = 45

5m /5 =45 / 5 (what you do to one sides of an equation you do to he other)

W = 45 / 5 (the 5's canceled out and we can now solve the equation)

W = 9

C - 3 = 7

+3 = 3

C = 10

Did you notice that once the equation was set up with the variables on one side and the numbers on the other, it was much easier to solve?

Do not get info the habit of solving the equations in your head - try and understand what is happening.

Are you still taking notes?

Remember you can repeat the movies as often as you need to.
